Domain or Name Change Instructions

During the life of your business, you may change the name of your organization.

This often comes paired with a change in your website/email domain. Copper wants to support you as your business grows and changes, so we've tried to make the process of changing your domain in Copper as simple as possible.

That being said, there are still things that you'll need to plan for and steps that you'll need to take in order to ensure a smooth transition in your Copper account.

The following are reasons you may need these instructions:

  • Your organization has changed names
  • Your organization has changed web and/or email domains
  • You have changed email addresses within your organization (e.g. dwight@Copper.com > d.schrute@copper.com)
  • You are changing your personal email address or account and would like to retain your records

Important: Do not invite the new email domain to your account. you must work with Copper Support.

Also important, you'll want to plan ahead for the following items:

  • Allow for downtime. Depending on the complexity of your account, you should plan for up to 5 days of downtime. Our support team will be able to give a more accurate assessment for your specific situation.
  • Get excited to speak with our Support team. A domain change may require several interactions with the support staff. This is normal.
  • Plan ahead.

Follow along below and we'll help you through the process. Let's get started.

Step 1

  1. Fill out the Domain Change Template.
    • You can download this template at the bottom of this article.
    • Please enter your email address in all lowercase letters.
  2. When you're finished, email the form as an attachment to support@copper.com
    • Please make the subject line of your email: "{your company name} Domain Change"
    • In the body of the email, please include:
      • When the new email domain will become active.
      • The date you need this domain migration completed.

Step 2

Make sure your browser and operating system are up to date.

For Google Chrome, navigate to "About Google Chrome" and allow your browser to check for updates. Check it out below:

For Mac users, Copper's Preferred OS is Mojave, but please verify that you're running at least OS Version 10.13 High Sierra or higher.

Step 3

Copper's support team will guide through the following step, but to summarize, we will use a tool to overwrite your old email domain with your new email domain.

When the process is complete on our end, we'll notify you via email at your new email address, at which point you will need to accept an Email Change Token which will be included in the email we send you.

Here are the more detailed steps:

  1. Log out of Copper.

IMPORTANT: Do not make a new trial Account. If you or any of the company users are being prompted to create a new trial account STOP and begin again with step 2. Open an INCOGNITO window in Chrome. If the problem persists, please speak to the admin in charge of your company’s Copper domain change. If you are the admin, contact Copper support as there may be some additional steps needed on our end.
  2. If the change is successful you will be routed to the Copper Dashboard. You can confirm that the migration is complete by checking your personal details and verifying the new email is present.
