It would be good to have a function that converts a won opportunity to a project

    Hello!

Copper now supports the ability to create a project from a Won Opportunity. This was made available starting September 2020.

With this added feature we give you the option to create a project when you drag the opportunity to a won state and you also can select the project template you would like to use in creating the project.  Once created, we scrape the opportunity details into the project overview page so there is less data entry and can jump in and start working within projects.

Do check it out and if you have any further feedback, feel free to send it to our team: product-feedback@copper.com.

    Thanks,

    Andrea S. - Copper Team

  • Here, here, that'd be awesome!

  • Agreed

  • +1 for this

  • as long as financial data isn't shared with the whole project team. ;)

  • +1

  • This would be cool!

  • Any update? This request was made exactly a year ago, but looks like it was ignored.

  • I will throw my hat in.  Opportunities -->  Projects would be an excellent addition

  • +1 this is a needed feature for sure.

  • Steve Reasner,

We do continue to evaluate all these requests, so please keep the votes and comments coming. As you can see by this forum, we get a large volume of feature requests and have to evaluate each one relative to product strategy and resource availability. The product team is working hard to deliver some really exciting product enhancements this year. Stay tuned.

  • This is definitely needed

  • Another vote for this one.

  • ... and another up vote.

  • Prosperworks support -- any update on this request? It is originally from February 2015, so a year + now. It is such a basic idea, I'm really surprised that this feature doesn't exist. It seems kinda silly to recreate all of the notes that were created during the opportunity phase again for the project phase. Stuff really needs to carry over from one to the other. Thanks for your response!

  • Vote from me. It's a CRM standard feature.

  • Me too - Standard feature please..

  • This is a standard feature with other CRM's and quite frankly I was told it was part of the package when we purchased it... what's going on here guys??

  • I agree with Steve!  We are utilizing sales pipelines that are modified for our production team - this is a huge redundancy in entry fields, time, and reporting.  As with most we were told this was on the roadmap for Q1/Q2 completion ......

  • Agree completely with this thread.

  • Also agree here. This is a big missing link in the process for us.

  • Dear Prosperworks:  Can we please get an update?  This seems like an idea that would vote out pretty high with your users.  Is this a project you are even considering?  Thanks!

  • This would be fantastic! (while I'm here - may I dream of TeamWorks integration with it?)

  • I can never understand why startups stop developing new features when they get traction in the market. I've been a developer for over 20 years specialising in CRM systems. I can say from experience a feature like this will take half a day to implement and 1 - 2 weeks to test.

Just do it please! I'm on the verge of looking for another CRM that can.

  • I agree that it is tedious to have to try to copy over the notes from an opportunity to a project. And then the opportunity is still hanging around too. Prosperworks, this was first requested as a feature in February, 2015. Can you let us know where it is in the pipeline? Thanks!

  • Hello everyone, we are really appreciative of all the feedback you are sharing. First of all, I wanted to reassure you that we are hard at work enhancing existing functionality and building new features that we are excited to release. We are also working on improving our communication so that you are aware when new features become available.

Your enthusiasm obviously helps us prioritize competing suggestions. A lot of our features are focused on helping you with your sales processes, and it is great to hear that you are finding value in the Projects functionality as well. We will definitely consider this particular request, and are likely to reach out to some of the contributors on this thread to gather details.

In the meantime, I would like to echo a suggestion shared here, as it is something I have seen work well with some of our clients. Given that it is possible to transfer opportunities from pipeline to pipeline, some of you may find it useful to create pipelines that reflect post-sales project management (fulfillment) processes. Here at ProsperWorks, for example, when a sales opportunity is won, it is moved to the "Customer Onboarding" pipeline, which includes stages like sales handoff, first consultation, second consultation, training, on-boarding complete.

Happy to get more feedback on this (ursula@prosperworks.com)

  • Ron's point is still dead on.  Furthermore we have multiple custom fields that are obviously not utilized when transferring a won opportunity to the production side - to force a square peg through a round hole is a little remedial for CRM at this pricepoint.

  • Though I agree that converting won Opportunities into Projects would be the logic thing to do, for myself I have found a proper workaround more than a year ago. Now I see that Ursula of ProsperWorks suggest about the same (for the time being).

See https://prosperworks.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/202524895/comments/212261203 Ursula (27.8.16): "Given that it is possible to transfer opportunities from pipeline to pipeline, some of you may find it useful to create pipelines that reflect post-sales project management (fulfillment) processes. I use this same method, changing won opportunities from pipeline Acquisitie (acquisitions) into pipeline Opdrachten (assignments) (from start to closing in several phases). Furthermore, I use Projects not at all as projects but as Dossiers (Permanent Files) with background information, development, links to interesting details in earlier opportunities etc. So it's a kind of archive and reference book. I can link each file (Project) to any opportunity or contact.

I just wanted to share this here.

  • Thanks for sharing your process, Ytzen!

  • Ytzen, this is a similar workaround that I have currently implemented. My only challenge at the moment with moving them across pipelines is the effect that has on my analytics. If I move all my current projects (won opportunities) into a project pipeline when I am looking at my sales reports I am missing a chunk of my sales data.

Without an "all" pipeline stats view this is troublesome.

I still find it mental that it's not possible to convert an opportunity to a project. It seems like it should be a standard piece of functionality. Is there a timeline for implementation?
