Now that you understand what Copper can do, it’s time to get your team on board. In this chapter, we’ll walk through how to introduce Copper to your team, provide effective training, and ensure they’re set up for success across different platforms—including the Chrome Extension, web app, and mobile app.

We’ll also highlight key resources for ongoing support, so your team knows where to go when they have questions. Whether you're rolling out Copper for the first time or helping your team get more out of it, this chapter will give you the guidance you need. Let’s get started!

Training your team

Before training your team, ensure Copper is fully set up with your processes in place. While teaching them the ins and outs—such as adding, editing, and filtering records—it’s helpful to structure your session around a "day in the life" approach. Walk them through Copper using real-life scenarios to make the training more engaging and relevant. That way it has a higher chance of sticking.

As mentioned in Chapter 1, users can approach Copper in one of three ways, which we’ll cover in the training plans below. While each approach emphasizes different features, it’s important to note that everything in Copper can be done regardless of which method your team prefers.

The sections ahead outline key areas to train on, along with key discussion points to guide your sessions. A great way to drive adoption is to help each team member personalize their Copper experience, such as setting up their own email preferences, customized list views, and saved filters—so the platform works for them from day one.

→ Chrome Extension

Before diving into training, make sure everyone on your team has installed the Copper Chrome Extension—this is essential for maximizing efficiency.

  • Adding contacts: One of the biggest benefits of the Chrome Extension is how quickly you can add new contacts.

    • When you open an email, Copper automatically detects the sender.

    • If they’re not in Copper yet, you’ll see an “Add to Copper” button, click it to create a new contact instantly.

    • If the contact already exists, a Copper logo (C) appears next to their email. Clicking on the email will open their profile in the extension.

  • Editing contacts: When a contact already exists in Copper, the extension displays three key sections:

    • Details – View and edit contact fields at any time.

    • Activity – See past emails, log activity notes, track the number of interactions, view the last interaction date, and monitor inactive days.

    • Related – Access associated opportunities, tasks, files, and calendar events.

  • Tasks: Tasks in Copper are designed to keep you on track, and the Chrome Extension ensures they’re always visible. You can view tasks in multiple places:

    • Within the Related section of a contact.

    • In your Task List (Tip: Set the default view to “My Open Tasks” to focus on pending tasks).

    • In Google Calendar, the WebApp Feed, and through email notifications when tasks are due.

  • Filters & search: You can filter or search for any record type directly from the extension. Just use the search bar at the top to quickly find contacts, companies, or opportunities.

💡 Pro Tip: Need to open the full Copper Web App? No need to bookmark or type in a new tab—simply click the box with an upward arrow in the top-right corner of the extension, and it will take you directly to the same page in the web app.

Copper web app

The Copper Web App is your central hub for managing contacts, tracking activity, and staying on top of your tasks and Pipelines. Below, we’ll walk through key features and best practices for making the most of it.

Feed: The Feed is your central hub in Copper, where you can track all activities, updates, and interactions from you and your team members, in one place.

  • Filter to your activity – Click “Following” at the top to focus on updates relevant to you.

  • Track emails & activity – View emails, logged meetings, and tasks in one place.

  • Add Suggested Contacts – Copper will suggest contacts from your email that aren’t yet in the system.

  • Collaborate with your team – See activity from teammates who are working with the same clients or covering for you.

Personal preferences (Settings > Preferences)

  • Set your timezone and profile photo for better personalization.

  • Adjust other preferences to match your workflow.

Email settings & Templates

  • Send & Reply Email Preferences – Enable sending emails directly from Copper. These emails come from your Google account, use your Gmail signature, and are saved in your Gmail Sent folder.

  • Email Templates – Save time by using Copper’s personal and shared templates. These can be used in both Copper and Gmail (via the Chrome Extension). Customize templates with merge fields, links, images, and attachments.

People & Companies

  • List View – The primary view for People, Companies, Pipelines, and Tasks—think of it as your dynamic spreadsheet.

  • Customize Columns – Choose which fields to display (Settings in the top right).

  • Filters – Create and save filters to easily access the data you use daily. If you have a large number of records, setting a default filter helps manage the view.

→ Bulk Actions: After filtering or selecting multiple records, you can do the following.

  • Bulk Edit – Update multiple records at once.

  • Bulk Email – Send the same email to multiple contacts (each receives an individual email—no BCC or CC).

  • Merge Records – If duplicates exist, merge them into a single record.

  • Delete or Export Records – Available with the right permissions.

→ Opening Records: Like the Chrome Extension, each record includes the following.

  • Details – View and edit contact fields.

  • Activity – Log emails, interactions, and notes.

  • Related – See linked opportunities, tasks, files, and calendar events.

You can also send emails directly from the Activity section, including To, CC, and BCC recipients, and apply Copper email templates.

→ Pipelines: Copper allows multiple pipelines, making it easy to map out your customer journey and train your team on day-to-day workflows.

  • Views:

    • List View – A structured spreadsheet-style view.

    • Board View – A visual kanban-style Pipeline (customize what’s shown on each card).

  • Moving through stages – Train your team to manage opportunities by moving them through stages and using associated task/email automations.

Mobile App

Copper’s mobile app is perfect for staying connected while on the go.

  • Business card scanner – Instantly add new contacts by scanning their business cards in the Copper app.

  • Access all key features – The mobile app provides a condensed version of Copper, similar to the Chrome Extension.
