Customizing your pipeline fields and organizing the layout

Written by Chris Clark

Learn how to customize pipeline record fields, create new fields, and organize the layout for your team.

Pipeline records include default fields like name, pipeline, primary contact, close date, company, status, owner, stage, value, source, and priority. Admins can customize this layout so reps only see the fields they need to move opportunities forward.

Before you start

You must be an admin to customize fields. Changes made in Fields On Records apply to users in your organization.

Customize your pipeline fields

  1. Click your company name in the upper-left corner of Copper, then go to Settings.

  2. Under Customization, select Fields On Records.

  3. Open the Pipeline Records tab, then choose the pipeline you want to update.

From here, review the fields in your pipeline. Remove fields your team does not use, and keep the fields that help with reporting, forecasting, and daily follow-up.

Create a custom field

Click Create Field to add a field that is specific to your business. Choose the field type, give it a label, and add any options.

For example, you might create an Industry dropdown with options such as School, Public Sector, Private Sector, and Financial Services.

Organize the layout

After your fields are added, drag and drop them into the order you want users to see them. You can also:

  • make important fields required;

  • move high-priority fields closer to the top;

  • add sections, such as Deal Information, to group related fields.

Pipeline Fields best practices

Keep your pipeline layout focused. Too many fields can make opportunities harder to update. Use the fewest fields needed to capture important information, and organize them so users can quickly find what matters.

Once your layout is saved, users will see the updated field order and sections on pipeline records.

Now that you have set up your Pipeline Fields, it's time to create Pipeline Records and start closing Opportunities!
