What’s changing?
Starting January 1, 2027, California and Colorado are expanding their sales and use tax rules to cover software purchases. California’s changes include digital products and remotely accessed software, while Colorado is expanding the software purchases subject to tax by removing its downloaded-software exemption.
As a result, Copper invoices issued on or after January 1, 2027, for affected customers in California and Colorado will include applicable sales tax in addition to subscription charges. The amount will depend on your billing location and applicable tax rates.
Can I pay ahead before invoices change in January?
Yes. You can explore paying upfront for future subscription time before January 1, 2027. Our team will confirm the available term, updated subscription dates, and the amount due before you approve a change.
Contact our Support team through chat in Copper or email support@copper.com, and let us know you're interested in paying upfront to extend your existing term.
On a monthly plan? Switch to annual billing.
You can move from monthly to annual billing and pay for your annual subscription upfront. Our team will help you review annual pricing and arrange the change before the January 2027 tax changes take place.
Contact our Support team through chat in Copper or email support@copper.com, and let us know you're interested in switching to an annual plan to pay for your next 12 months before January.
Please note: Prepayment is not a guarantee of tax savings. A tax professional can advise on how paying ahead may affect your business’s tax obligations.
Where can I learn more about the tax changes?
For guidance on how these changes apply to your business, we recommend speaking with a qualified tax professional. Copper can help with your subscription and billing questions, but we can’t provide tax advice.
