Filtering is a powerful tool to key in on exactly the information you are looking for. In Reports, there are several layers of filtering that you can leverage to customize your experience.
Dashboard Filters
Dashboard filters allow you to apply filters over an entire Dashboard.
To apply a Dashboard filter:
Open the Dashboard
Below the Dashboard title, you’ll see a range of filter options. Click on the aspect you’d like to filter on and select your filter criteria.
Click Apply.
Your Dashboard will automatically refresh and repopulate itself to match your filters.
You can apply multiple Dashboard filters to narrow down your view even further.
Note: if a Dashboard filter is applied while you export a Dashboard or schedule an email, that filter will be reflected in the PDF export.
Overriding Dashboard Filters on Insights
Normally, Dashboard filters apply to all Insights on a Dashboard. However, you can adjust individual Insights on a Dashboard so that they will not be affected by a Dashboard filter.
To override a dashboard filter on an Insight:
Open the applicable Dashboard and click the Edit button in the top right corner.
Select the applicable Insight and click on the three dots [...] on in the top right corner.
A configuration window will appear. Click on Configuration and select which types of Dashboard filters you would like to apply to this Insight.
Insight Filters
There are two types of filters you can apply to individual Insights:
Topline filters: these change the data range you’re currently viewing in the Insight, but does not change the configuration of the Insight itself.
Measure filters: these change the core data available to Insight.
Top Line Filters on Insights
Top Line filters allow you to filter information that’s currently displayed on an Insight.
To apply a top line filter to an Insight:
Open an individual Insight in edit mode.
Below the Insight title, you’ll see a range of filter options. Click on the aspect you’d like to filter on and select your filter criteria.
Click Apply.
Your Dashboard will automatically refresh and repopulate itself to match your filters.
Please note that top line filters are meant to offer a temporary view, meaning they will reset each time you load the Insight. If the Insight is on a Dashboard, it will also be affected by any dashboard filter you apply.
If you are hoping to apply a permanent filter to an Insight, please read below to learn about measure filters.
Measure Filters on Insights
Measure filters are useful if you need an Insight to look only at a specific range of data. They change the underlying data that is available to the Insight, whereas a top line filter will only change your temporary view.
