Insights are the individual graphs and charts that make up a Dashboard. You can use and edit our pre-made Insights, or create your own from scratch. If this is your first time using Reports, we recommend starting with the guide linked here.

As an example, let’s build a bar chart that compares the number of opportunities owned by each user of your Copper system. Here's what that chart will look like at the end of this example:

To start, open the Insights Builder by clicking on the Reports icon and selecting Insights Builder.

Select your Insight type in the top left corner of the Insight Builder. In this case, we’ll select the Bar Chart icon.

Add your measure. In this case, we’ll use Opp ID. In the data picker, expand the data list under Opportunity. Then, drag Opp ID into the Measures section of the Insight Builder.

You might be tempted to use Opp Name, but we recommend Opp ID because IDs are unique, whereas there’s a chance you have multiple Opportunities with the same name.

Once you’ve dropped the Opp ID into the Measures, you’ll see a bar chart with a single bar in the Insights Builder. Next, we’re going to split that bar into multiple using the Opp Owner.

Configure Your View By field, which is how your bars are segmented. Go back to the data picker and drag Opp Owner into the View By section of the Insights Builder.

Once you’ve dropped the Opp Owner in, your single bar will split into multiple based on the users in your Copper system that are assigned to opportunities.

Name your Insight by typing in a new name where it says “Untitled insight.” We recommend giving it a descriptive name, such as Count of Opp IDs by Opp Owner, so that it’s clear what this Insight represents when you open it up later.

Save your Insight. Remember to click on the Save button in the top right corner.

Once it’s saved, your Insight will become available to use in the Dashboard editor.
