The activity log shows all the interactions your company has had with a record. Each individual record's page has an activity log. This applies to leads, people, companies, opportunities, projects and tasks.

See how it's done:

In this module, we'll tackle the following:

Understand the Activity Log

Your activity log helps you see the interactions you had with a record during the course of your business cycle. This shows you actions that were positive (if you ultimately won the associated opportunity) or negative (if the associated business transaction was lost or abandoned).

Updates in your activity log might be generated from one of the following:

You can filter the Activity Log by specific activity types, so you only see activities that are relevant to what you're looking for. For example, in the gif below, you can see us filtering the Activity Log so that it only displays synced emails.

filter_activity_log.gif

Of the above-mentioned methods for adding an event to your activity log, the following can be added to the log right above it on a record's page:

  • Activity - This is an action you took, like a phone call, meeting, or to-do

  • Note - This is an internal note to yourself or to a colleague who can also see the record

  • Email sent from within Copper

When you create an activity or note, you can @mention a colleague who needs to be aware of it or take action on it. The result is a notification to the @mentioned user, via the app and via email.

You can also use Markdown to emphasize text in your note with bold, italics, etc.

In certain circumstances, emails and activities will sync between records.

Finally, you can filter the Activity Log by specific User, meaning Copper will only display items that were created and logged by the selected user.

To Filter by User click the circle with either the initials or photo of the Copper user whose activities you would like to see. You can hover over the circle to see the name of the user.

Click the desired user to filter the activity log by that user's posts. Click the user again to deselect.

See Filtering by User in action below:

Create a new activity in the Activity Log

When you log an activity, you'll choose an 'Activity Type' from a drop-down menu. This selection shows up in your 'Activity by User' report (Professional and Business), and you may want to customize it as a result.

Check out our 'Working with the Activity Types setting' article for details on how to add custom activity types.

  1. Sign into your Copper account, and click a record type (i.e. 'Leads,' 'People,' etc.) from the left-hand menu.

  2. Click the name of an individual record.

  3. Locate the 'Activity Log' in the center of the page. (For 'Opportunities,' this will live under the 'Activity' section of the record. You can only leave an internal note on tasks).

  4. In the 'To-Do' drop down menu, select the activity type.

  5. In the line that says 'Click here to add a note,' you can enter the details of the activity. If you want to @mention a colleague in these details, you may do so.

  6. Click 'Save' when done.

Copper will also automatically log your Google Calendar events in the Activity Log for the associated record.

Start by creating an event in your Google Calendar through the related section of record for the person(s) you’re meeting with.

The email address for the person(s) that you’re sending the invite to must be in Copper.

That’s it. You’ll likely first see the invitation email synced into Copper immediately. Then, once the time of the meeting has passed, it will be logged as an event in the Activity Log.

The names of the participants will be linked those records, and the event can be commented on, pinned to the top or reacted to, just like any other activity.

  2. Click 'Email Settings.'

  2. Click the name of an individual record.

  3. Locate the 'Activity Log' in the center of the page. (For 'Opportunities,' this will live under the 'Activity' section of the record. For 'Tasks,' this will be under the 'Notes' section).

Comments, Reactions and More

As the various activity logs for your records begin to grow, there may be times when you want to congratulate a colleague on a job well done, or ask a question about a recently logged activity. This can be done by starting a comment thread on an activity, note, or email, or by simply adding an emoji reaction.

Beneath any activity, note, or email, you can click the smiley face icon to add an emoji. We’ve added some popular options that cover a range of reactions.

If you hover your mouse over a specific activity, note, or email, you’ll also notice a pop-over bubble in the top right of the logged item.

This pop-over allows you to add an emoji, but also gives options to add a comment which will begin a comment thread.

On activities and notes, you’ll have the option to edit or delete the logged item. On emails you’ll have options to reply, view the html version, delete the email from the log, or change the visibility to public or private.

Additionally, if you receive an email containing file attachments, you can use the activity log to quickly relate the file to the person record in question. By clicking the file attachment dropdown, you can either download the file, or click "Relate to Person". This will instantly add the attachment to the "Files" section of the related panel.
