You can pause an email automation at any time from multiple places:
From the list of automations
From the details panel, which is also accessible from your Pipelines
When you pause an automation, emails will stop sending immediately.
A paused automation:
Will not send any emails until it is set live again
Will not continue to update the To Send tab
Will continue to update the Opened, Clicked, Replied, and Errors tabs for emails that were sent before the automation was paused
When you set a paused automation live, the automation will:
Check to see if any new contacts have matched or unmatched the criteria
Resume sending emails within minutes
Business plan only: This includes contacts who were in the middle of a multi-step automation
