When managing projects in Copper, Tasks and Subtasks are essential for breaking down work, assigning responsibility, and tracking progress. This guide will help you use Copper’s task management features effectively to keep projects on track.

What are Tasks and Subtasks?

  • Tasks are actionable to-dos associated with a project (Opportunity) or related records.

  • Subtasks break down a Task into smaller steps, helping you track progress on detailed work within a task.

💡 Subtasks are viewable in the Related tab of an Opportunity or Task, making it easier to see all work items connected to your project in one place.

How to create and manage Tasks

  • Open an Opportunity (your project) and scroll to the Related > Tasks section.

  • Click the “+” icon to create a new Task.

  • Assign an owner, due date, and add details.

  • Track progress by updating task status as work proceeds.

💡 You can now reorder tasks by dragging and dropping them within the task list or popovers to reflect priority or workflow changes.

Working with Subtasks

  • Inside a Task detail view, add subtasks to break down the work further.

  • Subtasks can be checked off as completed, giving clear visibility into progress.

  • This “checklist” style is ideal for simpler steps that don’t require full task details or owners.

Organize Tasks with Task List View and Filters

  • Use the Task List View to see all tasks across projects.

  • Group tasks by related entity, due date, or owner to get better visibility on who’s doing what and when.

  • Filter tasks by client, project, or status for quick prioritization.

Link Projects and Tasks Across Records

You can relate Pipeline records to each other, such as linking a project directly to the sales opportunity it originated from. This connection helps you track the full journey from deal to delivery.
