Overview
Copper’s pre-built Google Sheets file already contains the structure for an executive Sales Analytics Canvas. You do not need to design the dashboard or paste the full build prompt. Copy the template → import Opportunities with the Copper add-on → tell Gemini which Copper tab to use → validate the results.
⚠️ This article walks through using Copper's pre-built Google Sheets Canvas to quickly stand up Copper CRM Reporting.

Part 1: Connect your Copper Data to the Sales Dashboard
Part 2: Review and Understand the Sales Dashboard
Before you start
You will need:
A Copper account and permission to export the Opportunity records you want to analyze.
The Copper CRM for Google Sheets add-on installed in Google Sheets.
Access to Gemini and Canvas in Google Sheets. Canvas is available in Sheets on the web for eligible accounts; availability can depend on your Workspace plan and administrator settings.
What the pre-built Canvas includes
The template is designed around the sales-operations brief below. Once connected, every view should reflect the selected Year and Owner and calculate from your Copper Opportunity records.
Dashboard area | What it creates |
Global controls | Year and Owner dropdowns filter the entire dashboard. Year defaults to the current year; Owner defaults to All Owners. |
Executive KPI cards | Six cards show won revenue, unweighted open pipeline, weighted forecast, win rate, average sales-cycle length, and average won deal size for the selected filters. |
Monthly performance | All 12 months remain visible, including zero-activity months. Monthly goals, won revenue, weighted open pipeline, projected revenue, and attainment sit alongside an annual target summary. |
Revenue chart | A side-by-side monthly chart compares closed-won revenue with open weighted pipeline, making seasonality and pipeline coverage easier to scan. |
Stage forecast | Open deals are grouped by stage and multiplied by configurable stage probabilities to create a realistic weighted forecast. |
Owner breakdown | Managers can compare active deal count, open pipeline, weighted forecast, and closed-won revenue by Opportunity Owner. |
Loss analysis | Lost and Abandoned deals are grouped by Loss Reason, including lost value, deal count, and share of the total lost pipeline. |
Master table | A record-level Opportunity summary includes stage probability and weighted value, with a Status dropdown for All, Won, Open, Lost, or Abandoned. |
Governance and formatting | The Canvas reports from the Copper source without record-management controls. Currency, date, percentage, and duration formats stay consistent. |
Step 1: Make your own copy of the template
Open the Copper Sales Analytics Canvas template using the link below.
Select Make a copy. Google saves an editable copy in your Drive and opens it in Google Sheets.
Rename the spreadsheet so your team can identify the pipeline and reporting period—for example, Copper Sales Dashboard – North America.
Keep the existing Canvas and template tabs in place. You will add your Copper data as a new tab in the same spreadsheet.
Step 2: Import your Copper Opportunities into a new tab
In your copied spreadsheet, open Extensions (or Add-ons, depending on your Sheets menu) and launch the Copper CRM for Google Sheets add-on.
Choose Import data, then select Opportunities as the record type.
Choose the pipeline to report on and apply a Copper filter if you want to limit the records. Include enough history for the selected dashboard year.
Select Import Data. The add-on creates a new source tab in this spreadsheet; the import may take a few minutes.
Confirm row 2 contains readable field names and row 3 onward contains the expected Opportunity records. Note the source tab’s exact name.
⚠️ Keep the import as a separate source tab
Do not paste Copper data over the template or Canvas. The pre-built Canvas should point to the new Copper export tab, and that tab should remain the single source of truth.
📝 About the Copper export headers
The Sheets add-on uses row 1 for Copper API field names and row 2 for readable column names. Opportunity records begin on row 3. Keep both header rows in place; Gemini should use row 2 as the human-readable labels.
Step 3: Ask Gemini to use your Copper data
Open the existing Canvas from the Canvas tab or the Canvas option in the sheet’s bottom bar.
Choose Ask Gemini or Edit in the Canvas, depending on the controls shown in your account.
Paste the source-switch prompt below, replace <new data source> with the name of your Copper Data Tab.
⚠️ Use this exact prompt to replace to connect the new data tab:
Update the existing Canvas to use the Copper data from the [COPPER TAB NAME] tab as its data source. Keep the current Canvas structure, layout, and visualizations, but replace the sample data with the imported Copper data.
Replace [COPPER TAB NAME] with the exact name of the tab created by the add-on, then submit the prompt.
Check that the canvas is sourcing data from the new tab by selecting "View data" this should navigate you to your new tab with Copper data instead of the default "Data Source" tab.
After you have verified the Data is coming from your new tab, you can delete the pre-existing "Data Source" tab.
After completing the work, the Execute Sales Dashboard should now be sourcing the data from your Copper Add-on Tab.
Step 4: Set your stage probabilities and goals
The dashboard includes reporting settings for stage weighting, monthly goals, and the annual target. These settings shape the analysis; they do not change Copper Opportunities.
Stage probabilities: “Set Discovery to 20%, Demo to 40%, Proposal to 60%, and Negotiation to 80%. Add any missing open stages with 0% until I provide a probability.”
Monthly goals: “Set the monthly goals for January through December to [list amounts] for the selected year.”
Annual target: “Set the annual revenue target for [year] to $[amount] and show YTD attainment against it.”
Step 5: Validate the connected dashboard
Confirm the Year and Owner selectors update every KPI, table, and chart—not only the master table.
Compare Total Won Revenue with a Copper view filtered to the same Close Date year, Owner, and Won status.
Verify all 12 months appear and months without activity show $0 or 0 deals.
Spot-check weighted forecast by multiplying several open Opportunity values by their assigned stage probabilities.
Confirm Lost and Abandoned totals match the source and blank Loss Reasons are handled consistently.
Test the Status filter in the master table and check that no control can edit, create, or delete Copper records.
If your export contains multiple currencies, confirm the dashboard does not add them into one total.
Refresh and maintain the dashboard
Use the Copper add-on to refresh or re-import the source when you want current Opportunity data. Keep the tab name and required fields stable so the Canvas can continue using the same mappings. After a structural change—such as a renamed column, new stage, or changed status—ask Gemini to review its mappings and revalidate key totals.
Troubleshooting
Issue | What to do |
Gemini still shows sample data | Repeat the source-switch prompt with the exact Copper tab name and explicitly say to use only that tab. |
A KPI is blank | Check that Value, Status, and the relevant date fields were included. Ask Gemini to list the column it mapped to each metric. |
A stage has no weighted value | Provide a probability for that exact stage name, then ask Gemini to recalculate all weighted metrics. |
Canvas is unavailable | Confirm you are using Sheets on the web and that your account is eligible for Gemini in Sheets with required administrator and smart-feature settings enabled. |
