Using ChatGPT with Copper allows you to quickly retrieve and organize CRM data without manually searching through records. With the right prompts, you can gather contact details, analyze opportunities, and export useful datasets in just a few seconds.

If you regularly need lists of contacts or emails associated with opportunities, this workflow can save significant time and streamline your reporting or outreach preparation.

In this guide, we’ll walk through how to find the email addresses for the primary contacts on your open opportunities using ChatGPT connected to your Copper data.

Make sure your Copper CRM account is connected to ChatGPT. If you haven’t set this up yet, follow the tutorial on connecting Copper to ChatGPT before continuing.

Step 1: Start a New Chat and Select Copper CRM

  1. Open ChatGPT.

  2. Click New Chat.

  3. Select Copper CRM as the data source.

Selecting Copper CRM ensures that ChatGPT is accessing your Copper data, rather than general information.

Step 2: Confirm Your Copper Connection

Before running more complex queries, it’s a good idea to test that your Copper data is connected properly.

For example, I can ask: “How many open opportunities are in my New Business pipeline?”

ChatGPT will show you the data it wants to access and ask you to approve the lookup. Once approved, it will return the result.

You can quickly confirm the number in your pipeline in Copper to ensure everything is working correctly.

Step 3: Ask ChatGPT to Retrieve Contact Email Addresses

To find email addresses of the primary contacts for all open opportunities in the New Business pipeline, you could use a prompt like:

Please look up the email addresses for the primary contact on each of my open opportunities in the New Business pipeline.

ChatGPT will then:

  1. Retrieve the open opportunities in the specified pipeline.

  2. Identify the primary contact associated with each opportunity.

  3. Pull the email address from the contact’s record.

The results will typically be returned in a table format, listing the opportunities, contacts, and their email addresses.

When working with ChatGPT, it helps to think of it like working with a new intern. The clearer and more detailed your instructions are, the more accurate the results will be.

For example, you can refine your prompt by adding filters such as:

  • A specific pipeline

  • Opportunities within a date range

  • Only open opportunities

  • Contacts with certain attributes

Step 4: Export or Use the Results

Once ChatGPT returns the table of email addresses, you have a couple of options:

  • Option 1: Copy the table
You can copy the results directly into a spreadsheet.

  • Option 2: Request a CSV file
You can also ask ChatGPT to generate a CSV file containing the results, which you can download and open in spreadsheet software.

Bonus: Retrieve Emails for All Related Contacts

If your opportunities have multiple related contacts, you can expand your prompt to retrieve email addresses for all of them.

For example:

“Please retrieve the email addresses for all related contacts on each open opportunity in the New Business pipeline.”
