You will be prompted to log in to Copper, as shown below. Click sign in with api.copper.com
You will be prompted to select a company if you have access to multiple Copper instances.
Click Authorize to grant the Copper GPT access to your Copper account, as shown below.
Note: Although the authorization modal says “read and modify,” Copper GPT can only read your data; it cannot create, edit, or delete anything in your account. This message appears because Copper GPT uses the same authorization system as our Developer API, which includes broader permissions. Copper GPT’s access is strictly read-only.
With each question you ask, ChatGPT will ask you to confirm that you want to talk to api.copper.com, as shown below.
Finding Copper GPT in the Explore marketplace
You can also browse for the Copper GPT in ChatGPT's "Explore" marketplace.
⚠️ There are several GPTs called Copper that are not related to Copper CRM.
Our GPT will have the Copper logo, as shown below.
Giving Copper GPT "always allow" permissions.
Some questions require multiple API calls. To avoid hitting confirm multiple times per question, you can set the permission of the GPT to "always allow" in the GPT's Privacy Settings:
In the upper left of the chat, click Copper CRM to open the dropdown menu of options.
Select Privacy settings, as shown below
Select Actions and choose Always allow, as shown below
The Copper GPT can only read data; it cannot make edits or updates.
The Copper GPT will respect the visibility and permissions of your user account. If you do not have access to certain records, they will not be included in responses.
GPT Workspace accounts
If you are on a GPT Workspace account, your admin must enable the Copper GPT for you to chat with it. Until your admin enables Copper GPT, you won't be able to add it, and you will see this message when exploring.
💡 Tip
Copper GPT does not have direct access to your database and can only fetch data that is available via the Developer API.
How you can use Copper GPT
You can ask Copper GPT questions about your contacts, tasks, activities, and pipelines.
Here's a few example questions to get you started:
What [pipeline name] deals are expected to close this month?
How many [form name] activities are there for this month so far?
What are my tasks due this week?
Keep these tips in mind:
Ask focused questions. All CRM GPTs, including Copper’s, do best with narrower criteria. Asking broad questions like “How many Contacts do we have?” will produce inconsistent results.
💡Tip: If you think the results seem low, just ask: “Can you include all pages?”
The less ambiguity, the better. If you have a tag called
Vipand a contact type calledVip, specify which one you’re referring to when asking “How many VIP customers do we have?”
Copper GPT speaks to Copper via our Developer API. This means that GPT may have to do a few "searches" in the API to respond to complex questions.
Copper GPT cannot answer questions about:
The Legacy Projects feature. Copper GPT can only answer questions about Projects that are tracked in Pipelines.
Email activities. Currently, Copper GPT does not have any knowledge of email activities. If you ask about "recent activities" or "recent interactions", the response will not include any email activities sent or received.
Ensure you're chatting with the "latest version"
We routinely update our prompt based on user feedback on the responses. When a new update is available, you will see a message in your ChatGPT window that looks like this:
When you see this message, start a new chat.
How to logout of CopperGPT
If you are looking to disconnect Copper from CopperGPT to stop use or connect a different Copper account, follow these steps to logout of CopperGPT.

How to disable model training on your chats
OpenAI's models will not have direct access to your Copper CRM data from the Copper GPT. However, unless you turn off chat training, the model may still learn from the content of your conversations, including the questions you ask and the answers you receive.
Here's how to disable model training:
From the ChatGPT left-hand navigation, click your name in the bottom left.
Select Settings
Select Data Controls
Toggle Improve the model for everyone to OFF
If you are on a GPT Workspace account, your admin controls this toggle.
