Use the Copper Chrome extension

Written by Chris Clark

The Copper Chrome extension brings Copper into Gmail, Google Calendar, and LinkedIn. Use it to add contacts, review relationship context, use templates, manage tasks, and capture LinkedIn leads without switching back to Copper.

Before you start

Install the Copper Chrome extension and sign in. In Gmail and Google Calendar, open Copper from the Copper in the Google side panel. In LinkedIn, click the Copper extension; first-time use may ask for additional permissions.

Use the extension in Gmail

In Gmail, Copper marks emails from existing Copper contacts with the Copper C. Open an email to see the sender in the Copper sidebar. If the person is not in Copper, Copper can prefill details it finds online. Review the information, choose the right contact type, and click Add To Copper.

For existing contacts, use the side panel to review details, activity, related records, open opportunities, and email history before you reply.

When you compose an email, you can turn on email tracking and insert Copper email templates. Templates can include merge fields, such as the recipient's name or company, to personalize repeated messages.

Use Copper tasks in Google Calendar

Copper tasks can appear in Google Calendar on a separate Copper Reminders calendar that is visible only to you. When you complete a task, it is removed from your calendar. This helps you keep follow-up work in view without filling your team's shared calendar.

You can also use the extension from calendar events to add meeting attendees who are not yet in Copper.

Add people from LinkedIn

On a LinkedIn profile, open the Copper extension. Choose whether to create the record as a Person or Lead, select the contact type or relationship, and click Add To Copper. Copper pulls in available LinkedIn information, such as title, company, profile URL, and description.

Note: If your account requires an email address when creating people or leads, add the email before saving or work with your admin to adjust required field rules for this workflow.

Find email addresses from LinkedIn

After adding a LinkedIn contact to Copper, use Find Email from the Copper profile to search for an email address. Copper will notify you when results are ready. Email-finder credits are used only when Copper finds an email address.

Best practices

  • Review autofilled details before saving a contact.

  • Use consistent contact types and relationships when adding LinkedIn leads.

  • Use Copper templates for repeat emails that need merge fields.

  • Use Find Email only when you need a direct email address.
