Migrating your CRM data from HubSpot to Copper can be a smooth and efficient process with a bit of upfront organization. This guide walks you through each step—from exporting your data from HubSpot to importing it into Copper, including how to manage fields and custom properties. While this guide focuses on HubSpot, the same general principles apply when migrating from any CRM.
🎥 Migrating Contacts from HubSpot to Copper
Step 1: Export Your Data from HubSpot
Before exporting, streamline your dataset:
Edit Columns: Select only the fields you plan to migrate.
Quick Tip: If you're looking for the fastest path, limit your export to Name, Email, Title, and Company Name. This keeps your data simple and compatible without additional formatting.
Export the File: Once your columns are set, click Export. HubSpot will email you a CSV file shortly.
Step 2: Download the Copper Import Template
To ensure your data matches Copper’s format:
In Copper, navigate to Workspace Settings → Import Data → Import People.
Select Download the People Import Template.
Step 3: Match HubSpot Data to Copper Format
Open both your HubSpot CSV export and the Copper import template.
Remove unnecessary columns from the HubSpot export (e.g., Record ID, Create Date).
Rename column headers to match the Copper field names. For instance:
Job Title
→Title
Identify Custom Fields: Highlight any HubSpot columns that don’t exist in the Copper template. You’ll need to create custom fields in Copper for these to import properly.
Step 4: Create Custom Fields in Copper (If Needed)
Go to Workspace Settings → Customize → Manage Fields on Records → People → Create Field.
Match the field type to what it was in HubSpot:
Dropdown → Dropdown
Text → Text Field
Etc.
You can follow Copper’s video walkthrough for creating custom fields if you need help.
Step 5: Upload Your Data
Once your data is formatted correctly and all necessary fields exist in Copper:
Save your edited HubSpot CSV file.
In Copper, go to Workspace Settings → Import Data → Import People → CSV.
Upload your saved file.
Review the import preview to ensure all fields are mapped correctly.
Click Import.
Pro Tip: Copper allows you to revert an import if anything goes wrong.
Importing Pipeline Records
If you're importing deals or pipeline records, follow these additional steps:
Create Matching Pipelines in Copper: Set up your pipeline stages to mirror the Deal Stages in HubSpot.
Repeat the Process:
Export your pipeline data from HubSpot.
Download Copper’s Pipeline Import Template.
Match field names and create any needed custom fields.
Important: Always import People first. Copper must have those contacts in place before you can associate them with deals.
