If you're migrating to Copper from another CRM or contact management solution, we can help you move your existing data into our system. Your first step in this three-step process is to export your data from that third-party system.

In this article, we'll tackle the following:

Export your files from the previous platform or service

Most programs let you export your contacts as a CSV file. For instructions on how to export your data from a specific solution, click one of the links below. You'll be taken to a support article on how to export your Contacts as a CSV file from the system. Don't see your program in this list? Send us an email and we'll help you find out how to export your contacts from your current solution.

Format your file(s) from the previous platform or service

  1. Once you have exported your data from another service, open up the files and delete columns you will not need anymore like, IDs and timestamps.

  2. Split your data into our Categories: Companies, People, Opportunities and Leads.

  3. Need help formatting your file? Click here for some helpful editing commands.

Import the file

Now that your files are edited. Please follow the instructions in our 'Importing an Excel or CSV File' article.

Please note: If you are importing data from a previous system and would like to preserve your legacy or original record creation date, you can do so by using our “Created At” field during your import.

During your import, simply map the data column containing your legacy record creation date to the “Created At” field. You can also paste your legacy creation dates into the “Created At” field which can be found in all of our pre-formatted import templates.

Did the import not work?

If your import did not work, it might be easier to cut and paste into our templates.

To get the templates, go to System Settings --> Import Data --> click a category to import--> and go to the link shown below
