Managing your contacts in Copper can be effortless and insightful when you know how to use Filters effectively. In this article, we’ll walk you through how to create a filtered view of your contacts, optimize what data is visible, and streamline your follow-up process using tasks.

✅ Step-by-Step: Using Filters to Manage Contacts

1. Go to the People Section
Navigate to the People tab in Copper (these steps also apply to the Leads section).

2. Create a New Filter
Click Create Filter to begin building a customized view of your contact list.

3. Filter by “Owned by”
Apply a filter for Owned by to only view contacts assigned to you.

Tip: Any contact you add will automatically be owned by you, unless reassigned.

4. View Your Owned Contacts
You’ll now see a list of all contacts you own — perfect for staying on top of your network.

5. Customize Your Columns
Before saving, click the gear icon ⚙️ in the upper right to configure your columns.

6. Rearrange Columns to Highlight What Matters
Drag and drop columns to change their order. You can also add or remove columns to focus on relevant information.

7. Recommended Fields to Add

  • Contact Type – Quickly identify different relationship types.

  • Inactive Days – See how long it’s been since the last interaction to prioritize outreach.

  • Tasks – Keep track of follow-ups directly in the contact list.

8. Save Your Filter
Once your view is set up, click Save Filter and choose Public if you'd like to share it with your team.

💡 Bonus Tip: Stay on Top of Your Tasks

After creating tasks for contacts, manage them in the Task List.
We recommend grouping tasks by Due Date so you can clearly see:

  • ✅ What’s coming up

  • ⚠️ What’s overdue

This simple method helps you stay organized and ensures no follow-up slips through the cracks.

🎯 Final Thoughts

Filters in Copper are a strategic way to manage your pipeline and keep your relationships warm. Take a few minutes to set yours up, and you’ll save hours down the line.
